The silbo gomero is a whistled language typical of our land, La Gomera, and has been used since pre-Hispanic times to exchange messages over great distances. This allowed that during the time of the conquest the aborigines could communicate without the Castilians understanding the message. Its use is much less today but we have known how to honor it, drawing up unique laws to protect it and value its importance.
